the assignment was to create a mural for a building. there were three buildings I could choose between.
----- research -----
to begin the project I did some research to Blind Walls Gallery, the three options of the buildings and what is in and around the building I finally choose.
Blind Walls Gallery is an extensive collection of murals in Breda. each mural is inspired by a story from the city. international street artists, artists, designers and illustrators have already made 90 murals.
for the choice of building I went with the Jazz bar in Eindhoven since it had the most interesting culture in and around the building. it has the Catharina church across the street and a bunch of shops and restaurants around and in the building since it is in the centre of Eindhoven.
----- the process -----
once I knew which wall I wanted to design a mural for it was time to create some sketches. since there were quite some things to create a mural out of I had a lot of fun create different designs.
for the first design I focused on the fact that the Jazz bar offers a great library of cocktails. the idea was to have different type of fruits and things, which are added to the cocktails as decoration and a little bit of extra taste, floating around.
the second design is the inside of the Catharina church which is on the other side of the street.
my last design I wanted to include all things that the Jazz bar has to offer, which are food, cocktails and jazz music. so I went with mice, who are interacting with the space in-between the windows and edges of the building, who are doing these things.
the design with the mice was the one that me and the teacher liked the most so it was time to work it out more.
I did get feedback to add more story to the design by adding mice who are more in the background to make it more coherent.
what I wanted to show with this mural was the fun that the Jazz bar offers with all its different things. you can have a great meal and drink some fun cocktails, while also enjoying a great night of jazz music with your friends.
